Who Is Responsible For Climate Change? – Who Needs To Fix It?

This video is part of a series about climate change supported by Breakthrough Energy – a coalition founded by Bill Gates, that is working to expand clean-energy investment and support the innovations that will lead the world to net-zero carbon emissions.

Also a special thanks to the team at Our World for helping us out with data and research!

Sources & further reading:

Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have released over 1.5 trillion tonnes of carbon dioxide or CO2 into the earth’s atmosphere. In the year 2019 we were still pumping out around 37 billion more. That’s 50% more than the year 2000 and almost three times as much as 50 years ago. And it’s not just CO2. We’re also pumping out growing volumes of other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. Combining all of our greenhouse gases, we’re emitting 51 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents each year.
And emissions keep rising – but they need to get down to 0!

Question 1 and 3 are ok but I think question 2 is a bit questionable. I think the main point is that china did produce much less Co2 than USA and Europe but the thing is that China has just begun it’s industrial revolution (or like 5 years ago) so comparing it doesn’t make much sense (at least for me).
The main problem with china is, that It’s emission will raise a lot more before they reach the point where we are currently at and start reducing it.
Also about emission per ppl, china has a lot of rural areas while the most emission are in the city so there is a lot of room between the lowest produce per person and the highest produce per person. To make it more accurate you should only count the people living in the citys for china (which would be unfair but it would be more accurate), or you should have mentioned that there are a rural areas which doesn’t produce that much. Currently only 60% of the population lives in citys, in germany it is about 80% but germanys rural areas are higher developed than chinas which will change and will increase the emissions per person in china.
As a solution we can only hope that china (and india too) reach the point of reduction before we reach the point of no return (which I think we already reached).
As a joke I would have said that invading china were also a solution, but no It’s not, it would make it only worse, it is 100 or 200 years too late for that.

There is another possible solution which I think is the best: we have to help those countries and offer them our advanced technology so that they don’t have to evolve them on their own and increase the speed with which they reach the point of reduction.

We could just use a giant vacuum machine (Im serious)that relies on solar energy in the middle of the pacific ocean to suck out carbon dioxide sending it to a giant plant house swapping the co2 to become oxygen.
But in case of any risks:

We could just kill of humans

just want to ask, i’am no one, i’m not a public figure, i don’t have power, position, or anything, i’m just a 24 y.o junior consultant in some company in developing country, the question is what can i do as a small person to help reduce climate change? i now it’s pretty useless just a one person want to change thing like this, but it really concern me, if the world still not ready to change to solve climate change, at least i can change myself to not give a more burden to the world, i work using public transportation instead my own vehicle, i only use AC in the middle of night, i barely turning on any electricity in my room, just my laptop and smartphone, i just want to help even it just a tiny help

Question 1 proposes that developing countries, like China, have more emissions because they are trying to survive. Question 3 however says that 86% of emissions come from the richest half of nations, and China’s rise in emissions contrasts its drop in poverty. Can someone comment as to how these seemingly contradicting points overlap?

Climate change human made ? The more urge to control the human explosion in Africa and Asia.
CO2 emissions are calculated on fossiel fuel , burning forages is not in these calculations .
Blaming the CO2 for the greenhouse gasses is to simpel ,there are any more to consider even watervapour, H2O.
75 % of the surface of the earth is covert with water ,H2O.
The countries selling fossil fuels are also responsible . Most western counties like the Europeans don’t have oil.
Mostly the so called "poor" countries have been selling fossil fuel. They consume also the products produced by industrialized countries.
It’s a big responsibility of the producers and sellers of fossil fuel of the past and current times. Afrika and Asia.
The global warming started 18,000 years ago independent of CO2 emission or humans . (laws of Milankovic) .
The concentration CO2 is about 0,02 % and very low.
Would life as we know it be possible with even lower concentrations ?
life depends on CO 2; photosynthesizes .
Read this with the same background music and think it over.
