All the v-8 blocks from 326 to 455 were the same. A 455 with factory 3-2 barrels would have slipped right into this two seater just fine.
Even if it were an all steel body, which I doubt, it should come in under 3000 lbs.

This was 1964 and the car was waaay ahead of it’s time is why it was canned before the public got their eyes on it.
One of the independent kit car companies out there should scarf up this design and make them again.

The only reason it was a threat to the Corvette is because it would have sold for alot less and the Pontiac engines were better than what was found in the ‘Vette (My opinion). It used mostly off-the shelf parts (Tempest) which kept the price down. Could you imagine this thing with a 455?

Why didn’t GM just buy and build this?

  15. Garden on July 5, 2020 at 1:21 pm

I’m not in the business of running GM, but I’m going to come in and fire the CEO, give billions of taxpayer dollars to bolster support from the Unions and oh yeah, one last thing. Shut Pontiac the Fuck down because they make cars that are popular with consumers and I want those dummasses driving electric cars whether they like it or not. Barry H Soetero, GM CEO and POTUS 2009

    Fuk a corvette

  22. heymisterderp on July 5, 2020 at 1:33 pm

GM did sell this. It’s the C3 Corvette. It’s a branding issue when GM decided to use Chevy instead of Pontiac. Chevy was already known for selling high end sports cars. And if Pontiac produced this, what would happen to the Corvette, an already established and high selling model? Is there another reason for GM to have done this? I think there are multiple reasons, but the branding and sales issues look like the most compelling one of all. $ talks.

As a Pontiac collector Its sad concern over Corvette sales took away so many great cars such as the Pontiac Fiero was canned in 1988 not due to fire or bad sales… but the 2.8 L V-6 with the WS-6 package and getrag 5 speed 87-88 GT Fastback version were cutting into Corvette sales big time and the car was not made after 1988! due to much pressure from Chevy!

  24. malevolenceXXXensues on July 5, 2020 at 1:38 pm

@PasswordisPassword24 idk why they thought this car was threat to the already iconic corvette and they didn’t even have a problem with it going up against camaro for 2 decades

  25. Cory Taylor on July 5, 2020 at 1:40 pm

That is one beautiful looking machine, it’s to bad it never went into production

  28. w41duvernay on July 5, 2020 at 1:48 pm

due to the whinny Corvette bastard who were worried about keeping the Corvette alive.

  29. Bill Simpson on July 5, 2020 at 1:48 pm

Under powered like the DeLorean. That was the BIG mistake. An expensive car that looks fast, has to BE fast.

  30. DatMat on July 5, 2020 at 1:49 pm

    Fuck the Corvette
