Ok, maybe my box is not Montessori at all: it is not made of wood, and it doesn’t go in the simplicity/one self-guided task principle that Montessori toys apply… Nonetheless, it offers lots of opportunities for training fine motor skills, cause and effect association, manipulation…

And it might keep being interesting for an older kid, providing a way to see how color combination works (there is an RGB LED with individual switches to control the Red, Green and Blue individual parts) and a miliamperimeter that shows the box’s electricity consumption in real time – and it looks like the console of a Space Ship!

Would love a tutorial on how to do this.
I can follow along, but I have no idea how electricity electric things work, really…

Seria interessante pôr uns potenciômetros nos leds RGB, assim seria possível fazer uma luz com todo o espectro de cores apenas mexendo nos potenciômetros

What really jumps out at me on this project is that there is almost not noise making with it. Yes the click of the switches, but there’s no buzzers or music or anything that would drive most parents insane with the amount of time kids keep hitting the buttons. Great job on this

  9. cryangel17 on June 2, 2020 at 9:13 am

I wish I could buy this for my toddler! He would love it!!!

  10. magicwrestler86 on June 2, 2020 at 9:13 am

So every switch is daisy chained to each other while being wired to a single battery source?

  11. JWVONA on June 2, 2020 at 9:14 am

Any chance of a build guide as I am not too knowledgeable with electronics but would love to make something similar for my son?

Awesome! Very imressive work! So much effort for your lovely daughter. Can you explain to me wiring of that rotary switch with 5 led lights. Where goes + and – from LED lights, and where + and – from battery power?

Amazing! I was looking for references to board my daughter and found this video. It’s the coolest board I’ve ever seen. I would love to give one of these to my daughter, but I don’t have that ability. lol

Is the whole box run in series? It’s been 10+ years since I’ve got involved with electronics but I want to give this ago

  26. Denis Ramos on June 2, 2020 at 9:33 am

Hey man. Love the idea. It exactly what i want to build to my baby girl. Did you used an arduino to control everything? Or just hook it up directly to the battery? Can you link the box you used?

  27. megavoltmeister on June 2, 2020 at 9:33 am

Loved your project. Glad to see it got some good use. I started making one of these sort of busy boards for my son, but the part I did not realize was how fast he would out grow it. In fact he out grew it before it was complete. You have to move fast as kids grow fast.

  28. Amelia Saunders on June 2, 2020 at 9:35 am

This is actually incredible! WHY didn’t I pay for attention in electronics class!!!

  29. ronandraws on June 2, 2020 at 9:35 am

    with it very often

Omg this is truly amazing! You are very creative, incredible job you did. What kind of switch did you use in the bottom right corner to control the five small leds above it?

  40. Peter Hillyard on June 2, 2020 at 9:46 am

Way cool! Is your daughter still playing with it 14 months later?

it needs a timer shutoff to keep the batteries alive.

  44. paolo on June 2, 2020 at 9:53 am

Have you used a breadboard? How many batteries do you need for this? They’re not all run from 1 9v battery surely?
